You're Not Too Busy. You've Just Already Decided.

"I'm too busy" is the most common thing we hear from sales reps who want to start something of their own. It's also the most honest thing they say. Not because it's true. Because it tells us exactly where their priorities are.

Nobody is too busy. Not you. Not the rep at the desk next to you. Not the single parent working two jobs who still managed to register an LLC last Tuesday.

Busy is not a condition. It's a confession. When you say "I don't have time," what you're really saying is: "I've decided this isn't a priority." And that's fine. But own it.

Where your 168 hours actually go

You have 168 hours in a week. Same as every founder who ever started something from nothing. Let's look at where yours go:

    Sleep56 hrs
    Your sales job50 hrs
    Commute, meals, errands20 hrs
    Netflix, scrolling, decompressing25 hrs
    Unaccounted17 hrs

Seventeen hours. Every single week. That's not hidden time. That's time you've already decided to spend on things that aren't getting you closer to the life you say you want.

I'm not saying cut sleep. I'm not saying skip dinner with your family. I'm saying look at the 25 hours of Netflix and scrolling and ask yourself one question: Is this what "too busy" looks like?

You don't need 40 hours. You need two.

The gap between "thinking about it" and "doing it" is not a 40-hour work week. It's two hours. Here's what you could do with two focused hours this week:

Register an LLC. It takes 20 minutes in most states.

Send 10 outreach messages to business owners in an industry you already understand from your sales career.

Build a simple landing page. Nothing fancy. Just enough to say "I do this, and here's how to reach me."

Book one discovery call. Just one. That's all it takes to go from "thinking about it" to "doing it."

None of that requires quitting your job. None of it requires a business plan or a perfect website or a logo. It requires two hours and a decision that this matters more than the next episode of whatever you're watching.

The cost of waiting isn't zero

Every month you stay "too busy" is another month of someone else's quota, someone else's timeline, someone else's dream. You know this. That's why the thought keeps coming back.

But here's the part most people miss: the cost of waiting compounds just like the benefit of starting would have. A year from now, you could have 8 to 10 clients paying you monthly. Or you could be exactly where you are right now, still telling yourself you'll start "when things slow down."

Things don't slow down. You just get more comfortable with the speed. And one day you look up and realize you spent a decade being "too busy" to build the thing you actually wanted.

You're not too busy. You've just already decided. The question is whether you're going to keep making the same decision, or make a different one.

Two hours. This week. That's all it takes to prove to yourself that the story you've been telling isn't true.
