He had been on the other side of the lead economy.
Justin spent years in sales. Most recently in tech sales as an SDR, setting appointments for enterprise account executives. Before that he ran his own life insurance business. Before that, door to door.
The insurance years are the ones that matter here. Anyone who has sold insurance knows the arithmetic. You buy leads. You pay for them whether they convert or not. You eat the chargebacks when a policy lapses. Your income swings with a market you do not control. Justin knew exactly what it felt like to be the one writing the check for somebody else's leads.
What he was actually after
The thing that brought him to Escape Sales was not the money, and he said so on his first call. He could have climbed at his company and earned well doing it. What he could not get there was ownership. Equity. Something that kept paying after the work was done.
The first client took two weeks
In his words:
"I signed my first client and their ads went live today! This has been a 2 week process and I am still fairly new to Growth School."
Justin

The client committed $750 across Google and Meta for the rest of the month, with a retainer conversation set for the first week of August.
Then week one happened
"In 7 days, we've spent $206 in ad spend which has returned $2150 to their business. We have received over 30 total leads between Meta and Google, and closed 3 of them already. What makes this more impressive is that this business does not have a sales system."

Ad Spend
$206
Across Meta and Google in 7 days
Returned
$2,150
30+ leads, 3 closed, no sales system
$206 in. $2,150 out. Roughly a tenfold return inside a single week, for a business with no process for handling the leads once they arrived.
What Justin did next is the tell. He did not celebrate the number. He looked at 30 leads and 3 closes and saw 27 conversations that were mishandled, and started building the client a sales system to lift the conversion rate on leads he was already generating.
That is why a sales rep is dangerous in this business. Most agencies hand over leads and hope. A sales rep knows what happens to a lead after it lands, because they have been the person on the other end of it.
The second one
A commercial build-out and tenant improvement company. Discovery call done, free trial verbally agreed, ads planned for the first week of August.
Where he is now
"My goal is to have 5 Clients on Retainer by the end of the year. Good start so far, 30 days into Growth School."
Justin
The part worth stealing
If you sell insurance, or work anywhere that makes you buy your own leads, you already understand this product better than most of the people selling it. You have been the customer. You know what a bad lead costs, what a good one is worth, and exactly how it feels when the vendor goes quiet for a week. That is not a gap in your resume. That is the entire education.
